Testing
Trans fatty acids (TFAs) are unsaturated fatty acids that contain at least one double bond in the trans configuration. Trans fat occurs naturally in ruminant derived food products (dairy and meat products) and from industrially produced partially hydrogenated fat (margarines, spreads, and bakery products).
Eating foods rich in trans fats increases the amount of harmful low density lipids (LDL) cholesterol in the bloodstream and reduces the amount of beneficial high density lipids (HDL) cholesterol.
Trans fats create inflammation, which is linked to heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and other chronic conditions. They contribute to insulin resistance, which increases the risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
World Health Organization (WHO) aims at eliminating industrially produced trans fatty acids from the “global food supply” by 2023 which covers an array of ready to eat and other fresh and minimally processed food products.
In this regards, FSSAI has released a direction stating it has limited industrial TFA (trans fatty acids) to not more than 3 per cent in all fats and oils by January 2021 and not more than 2 per cent by January 2022. With FSSAI imposing this, it is mandatory that all FBOs comply with said limits. TUV India can help you and your business meet these requirements with the help of our Trans Fat testing services.
At TUV India, internationally approved and validated methods are used to analyze trans-fat in food samples using latest and highly efficient instruments which help in delivering high quality results. TUV India can help you in monitoring this and achieve the goal of trans fat free foods which in turn could help India become a trans-fat free country in coming years.
